Job Title: Shelter Substitute
Organization: OASIS, Inc.
Pay: $200/night (5pm-8am) and $150/day (8am-5pm) for shelter substitutes who are on call. $150 after completing training (Est. 15 hours)
Hours: Night shift (5pm-8am), Day shift (8am-5pm)
Respond to: Shelter Program Manager, Evening Shelter Manager and other staff as necessary.

1. Provide overnight supervision of the shelter and all residents and/or serving on-call status with staff cell phone during assigned working hours.
2. Shelter supervision includes:
   1. Keeping the shelter calm and safe.
   2. Ensuring shelter remains clean and sanitary.
   3. Transferring the crisis line.
   4. Providing supportive listening when necessary (keeping boundaries and setting time limits so that you can attend to other duties).
   5. Responding to crisis calls on the OASIS cell phone, reporting to the hospital, WCSO, BPD, or the Magistrates office in a timely manner when necessary.
   6. Providing medical and legal advocacy to clients as needed.
      Attending to daily administrative duties.
   7. Completing intake procedure, clarifying and enforcing house guidelines with clients.
   8. Providing childcare support to parents staying at shelters when appropriate.
   9. Supporting clients who are staying overnight in an emergency hotel stay.
   10. Picking up, sorting, and putting away shelter groceries.
   11. Provide support to clients with service, information, and referrals.
   12. May provide support to evening support groups, if scheduled on corresponding nights.
3. Coordinate with the staff person whose shift you are covering to pick up staff cell phone and keys. Pick up the crisis phone from the office by 4:45pm.
4. Subs must remain alcohol and drug-free while on shift and always have cell phone service.
5. Assisting with other duties as needed.
6. Complete Training Program (estimated 15 hours)
   1. 3 Nights at Shelter (two 3-hour shifts, one 5-hour shift)
   2. Office shift (1 hour)
   3. Read OASIS volunteer manual (3 hours)

2. Interpersonal, communicative, and conflict resolution skills.
3. Ability to create a supportive environment.
4. Ability to work with constant interruptions.
5. Computer literacy and proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
6. Must meet the necessary Motor Vehicle Record Check requirements set forth by Philadelphia Insurance Companies, have a valid Driver’s License, and up-to-date vehicle insurance to operate the OASIS vehicle when necessary.
7. Agreement with the OASIS mission, vision, values, and philosophy.

Working Conditions:

1. Some evening, weekend, and overnight work will be required.
2. May be required to lift items weighing up to 40 lbs.
3. Hazards may include physical threats from victims’ abusers. Client services staff may also be exposed to physical threats from mediating disputes between residents and illness from communal living situations.
