Our Services
OASIS has a philosophy of empowerment, which means we believe every survivor is able to make the best decisions for herself or himself if given the support and resource referrals. We never tell anyone what she or he should do. Instead, we help brainstorm ideas and look together at possibilities. We work closely with other helping agencies and can help survivors identify the different avenues of support available to them.
Below are the services OASIS provides:
- Shelter
OASIS can provide free temporary emergency shelter at a confidential location for families fleeing domestic violence.
- Short-term crisis counseling
Our experienced staff is trained in providing support to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. We follow trauma-informed service protocols, which means our focus is on
- Information and referrals to community resources
OASIS works closely with other service providers in the community, and we keep up to date on the changes in social services.
- Case management
Our client service staff provides case management as one way of empowering survivors to make their own choices about their lives.
- Support groups
OASIS holds a weekly support group for survivors of domestic abuse. We also partner with licensed mental health care professionals to facilitate a therapeutic group for survivors of sexual trauma. Screenings are required for both groups.
- Medical advocacy
OASIS staff can provide medical advocacy at either Watauga Medical Center or Blowing Rock Hospital, or with local physicians, for survivors of both domestic abuse and sexual violence. Our approach is to keep at the forefront what the survivor wants.
